Community Midwives – Community Midwifery Team
- Opportunity to make an impact on the health of our community in Counties Manukau
- Permanent Full/Part Time opportunities!
- Rostered Shifts
Our Organisation:
Health NZ Counties Manukau is a dynamic and progressive organisation at the forefront of innovative health care delivery within the New Zealand Public Health Sector. We continue to work with others to achieve equity in key health indicators for Maaori, Pacific and communities with health disparities and will continue to develop and implement plans, based on local needs to improve the health and wellbeing of Counties Manukau region. Our main sites are Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Hospital and Manukau Health Park.
We are part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. HNZ leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.
About the role:
The Community Midwifery Service embraces a midwife-led/woman focused model of care offering continuity of antenatal care and postnatal care as available. Many of the women have complex health and social needs, so a keen interest in learning the skills and knowledge to undertake joint working with several diverse agencies to get the best outcomes for women and babies will be a central part of this role.
The hours of work are mostly between Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4.30 pm with some negotiated flexibility in how you arrange your working hours. You will be required to work one day during a weekend on a rostered basis approximately once in every 4 weeks and to be on-call for one weekend daytime every 4 weeks in case your community midwifery colleagues working on a weekend day need help.
We are looking to recruit midwives who have already been working in the community for the organisation or as a self-employed midwife for 2 or more years.
Community Midwives are supported by our Specialist Diabetes and Maternal Fetal Medicine Team colleagues as well as by a Social Work and Community Health Worker Team. We also have a breastfeeding and infant nutrition service.
As the focus of community midwifery work at this time is mostly antenatal with some postnatal care, you will have the opportunity, in agreement with the manager, to be supported in providing occasional intra-partum care for women in order to meet the requirement of the midwifery scope of practice.
Salaries are based on the MERAS Collective Agreement Community Midwife Scale
