New funding has allowed the Department of Respiratory Medicine to grow the physiotherapy service to outpatient and community-based respiratory patients. This exciting position offers an experienced Physiotherapist with an interest in cardio-respiratory physiotherapy the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills and contribute to the established research culture within the Respiratory outpatient service. Post-graduate education is actively encouraged and supported, along with student and peer supervision.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary team who primarily provide respiratory care to youth/adults with respiratory conditions including asthma, bronchiectasis, COPD. Respiratory physiotherapy is also provided across a variety of health environments to youth/adults with neuro-muscular conditions. Opportunities also exist to work in other interdisciplinary clinics and services including pulmonary rehabilitation, disordered breathing clinics, bronchiectasis and complex case clinics across multiple sites, including the community within the Counties Manukau catchment area. 

These innovative teams work to provide better, sooner and more convenient care for our patients with respiratory conditions, while supporting other cardio-respiratory physiotherapy services. Our team includes a section head physiotherapist, nurse manager, physiotherapists including physiotherapy advanced practitioners and clinicians, respiratory nurses, respiratory consultants and physiotherapy assistants. The wider team includes other care providers including community stakeholders, non-profit organisations and tertiary care providers. 

To be successful in this role, you will need to have ideally a minimum six months of cardio-respiratory experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with patients and their whānau/families, and other members of the health team. Part time/secondment as well as flexible hours can be negotiated. 

Essential

• New Zealand Registered Physiotherapist with current APC

• Minimum 3 years experience as a Physiotherapist 

• Minimum 6 months experience in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy 

• Full, clean driver’s licence
