Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We have a 12-month fixed-term Pain Fellowship position available with The Auckland Regional Pain Service, commencing in February 2025, with opportunity to develop skills in the following areas:

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. We are looking for someone to fill all or part of this position; this role is based at Greenlane Clinical Centre.

The Auckland Regional Pain Service provides outpatient services spanning clinical assessment, medical treatment and inter-disciplinary management of persistent pain for patients taking a multidisciplinary approach to the care of complex patients.

This is an accredited Faculty of Pain Medicine Level-1 training unit and you will also have an opportunity to join the post-specialist qualification that leads to fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists with the post nominal FFPMANZCA.

  As a Pain Fellow, you will be expected to:

  • -          Perform comprehensive pain assessment of patients in liaison with psychosocial team
  • -          Liaison with TARPS staff and other health agencies
  • -          Active participation in interdisciplinary management of persistent pain
  • -          Quality and service improvement through clinical audit, pain research and clinical pathway development
  • -          Work with Acute Pain Service
  • -          Complete appropriate depth of pain assessment for individual patients
  • -          Liaise with referring agency and TARPS interdisciplinary staff
  • -          Arrange referrals to allied health and/or other specialties as indicated
  • -          Document clinical encounters and communicate to patient and referring agency appropriately
  • -          Maintain appropriate consultation and supervision under clinical supervisors
  • -          Participate in application interviews for Pain Management Programme
  • -          Actively involved in clinical audit, pain research and/or clinical pathway development

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important qualification/ Skills

As an ideal candidate:

  • -          You will either have or be working towards Fellowship in Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, Surgery, General Medicine or Rehabilitation Medicine (FANZCA / FRACP/ FRANZCP/ FAFRM / FRACS).
  • -          Additional background in pharmacology, anaesthesia, behavioural sciences, internal medicine, rehabilitation medicine, rheumatology or surgery.
  • -          Either be registered or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • -          Please note, you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.
