The Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Service (PCCS) is a national service based at Starship Children's Health, Auckland. It is the sole provider of cardiology and cardiac surgical services for infants and children with congenital and acquired heart disease for New Zealand and a number of Pacific Island nations. It also provides a foetal and adult congenital cardiology service.

The unit has a catchment population of four and a half million and we provide a full range of surgical and cardiological investigations and procedures with over 400 surgical cases per year of which 320 are bypasses. You would be working in a department with 11 other cardiologists and 3 cardiac surgeons, 4 fellows in training and a well-established multi-disciplinary team. 

Within our unit there is a well-established paediatric arrhythmia and electrophysiology service and also an internationally renowned cardiac inherited disease service. There is a close relationship with the adult cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac inherited disease services.

This is full time, permanent position, however fixed-term locum candidates are also encouraged to apply.

As the ideal candidate you will:

  • Have a subspecialty interest in Arrhythmia Management and Electrophysiology.
  • Have a subspeciality interest in Cardiac Inherited Diseases
  • Possess and demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a collegial environment
  • Demonstrate interest and potential to actively participate in departmental activities including teaching, audit and research
  • be eligible for Locum Tenens / vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand. If you are not currently registered in New Zealand and have overseas medical qualifications, you will be required to provide you will be required to provide EPIC source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.
