Pacifika Cultural Advisor - Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services

A great opportunity for a Pasifika Cultural Advisor with mental health experience to take on new role within the Forensic Prison Team

 The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons. 

We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Māori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility and Northland.

We continue to develop our services to support our Pacific Island service users within our facility and are looking to recruit a Pasifika Cultural Advisor into our Forensic Prison Team (FPT) 

This will be the first time a Pasifika cultural role has been established in the team and you will be working alongside an already established Maori cultural team. We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding and awareness of Pacific values and beliefs, competent in at least one Pacific Island language and ideally has experiences in Pasifika health care to work as an integral part of our Forensic Prison Team.

This role will be responsible for providing Pasifika cultural assessments/interventions to support an appropriate treatment pathway for Pasifika service users on the Forensic Prison Team caseload both men and women.

Essential

• Confident speaker of at least one Pacific Island language
• Knowledge of Pacific community networks
• Understanding of Pasifika social and health issues
• Strong communicator
• Full drivers licence

Desired

• Work experience in Mental Health organisations or Prison setting
