We are Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.

We are part of Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. Te Whatu Ora leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

Manawanui is a Community Māori Mental Health Service that serves Māori tangata whai-i-te-ora from across the Te Toka Tūmai Directorate. The kaumātua role is essential to maintaining the tikanga of our marae and service. The kāumatua works with our full multi-disciplinary team to provide cultural advice and guidance for kaimahi and to ensure tangata whai-i-te-ora receive high-quality, clinical AND cultural care.

The Kāumatua role is a crucial part of our equity strategy. Working in partnership with the Manawanui leadership team, you will utilise Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your practice to promote best cultural practice within the service and across the Directorate. Your cultural leadership, expertise and support for the range of cultural workers across Kāhui o te Ihi will help to create a strong and responsive cultural workforce to meet the needs of Māori.

Most importantly, you will be well looked after with an abundance of aroha by a whanau of kaimahi that are waiting for the right kaumatua to lead us.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

  • Fluency in Te Reo me ona tikanga
  • Leadership skills with the ability to negotiate
  • Confident and competent in cultural rituals and ability to share cultural knowledge
  • Understands, articulates and utilises Te Tiriti o Waitangi to advance Maori health aspirations
  • Comfortable working with a range of different disciplines
  • Ability to work unsupervised

This is a full-time position, 8am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday, however part-time hours can be negotiated.
