ICU / HDU Psychologist

Waitematā District have an excellent opportunity available for an experienced registered psychologist to join our ICU/HDU team. This is a new role with an opportunity to create an effective psychology model for Critical Care. 

We are seeking a psychologist who has experience in working with acutely ill patients or within a physical or mental health setting. The role involves providing high quality psychological services, including assessment and intervention, across the critical care pathway. The work is varied so will keep any psychologist interested and motivated. Involving patients, family members, wider whanau and staff.

Based at North Shore Hospital in the ICU/HDU, we work across all surgical and medical specialities. Our work is inpatient based, and with our Patient at Risk Team follows the whole critical care journey including ward transfer and early rehabilitation. We work closely with other MDT members and cultural support services.

We have a great team, so we would love to hear from psychologists who enjoy working with others, have strengths in maintaining effective relationships and are keen to be part of a dynamic and supportive team.

There is opportunity for more experienced psychologists to supervise and support student placements from Auckland and Massey University.

Regular supervision is provided and there will be plenty of professional development opportunities.

Key requirements:

  • Registered with the NZ Psychologist Board (NZPB) with a current practicing certificate
  • Comprehensive psychological assessment and treatment skills.
  • 3 years post graduate experience
  • The ability to work with a wide variety of clients including those from various cultural/ethnic backgrounds
