Maori Cultural Advisor-Tu Maia - Regional youth forensic mental health

 Tū Māia' means to be brave (Māia means to stand in your own strength).

Tū Māia is a dedicated Youth Forensic Team based at Greenlane Clinical Centre that provides services for the Auckland and Waitemata catchment areas.

Tu Māia has kaimahi from a range of disciplines including psychiatrists, paediatricians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, Māori and Pacifica cultural advisors and support staff.

The Tū Māia team:

• Provides in-reach to the two secure Oranga Tamariki residences in South Auckland; Korowai Manaaki and Whakatakapokai
• Provides court ordered reports – psychology, psychiatry and cultural
• Provides triage assessments and advice within the supra regional youth courts.
• Facilitate admission for any rangatahi requiring admission to the National secure youth forensic inpatient unit Nga Taiohi in Porirua.
• Actively liaises with Youth Coordination Teams as part of the national Youth Crime Action Plan.

 Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

 We are seeking a Cultural Worker who has a genuine interest and experience in working with rangatahi in the context of their whanau and wider environment. 

Is able to lead colleagues in culturally safe practice in a variety of settings. Being a confident communicator and active team member is imperative.

Knowledge of Maori models of health such as the Whare Tapa Wha kaupapa are essential.

Part of this role will include creating cultural reports for the courts, and a high standard of writing is required. 
This is a permanent, full-time role, working 40 hours Mon-Fri, based at Greenlane Clinical Centre. As this is a community role, a full and clean driver’s license is required.

 We will consider applications from appropriately experienced and qualified persons.

 Previous experience as a cultural advisor and knowledge of Te Reo is preferred
