Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari kē he toa takitini

My success should not be bestowed onto me alone, it was not individual success but the success of a collective

Ko wai mātou | Our Organisation

At Te Toka Tumai we are committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and providing culturally safe care. We value role modelling manaakitanga as demonstrated by Ngāti Whātua in the gifting of their whenua on which our hospitals stand. We aspire to having a workforce reflective of the communities we serve and achieving equitable outcomes for all.

Ngā whakaritenga o te mahi | The opportunity

Bring your expertise, your knowledge and your skills to make a difference around the way we approach our mahi to better meet patient, whānau and stakeholder needs. We are working hard to develop a responsive and capable workforce that reflects the population we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from our Māori and Pacifica communities to apply.

Te Toka Tumai is totally committed to creating a flexible workforce that is able help a multitude of areas within the Perioperative environment. You’ll be joining the Perioperative team who share Te Toka Tumai’s values of Haere Mai (welcome), Manaaki (respect), Tūhono (together) and Angamua (aim high).

We are excited to be providing an opportunity for Registered Nurses, with relevant Perioperative history, to train toward working as an Anaesthetic Assistant.

The RNAA programme is a workplace facilitated programme which aligns with, and recognises the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists standard for anaesthetic assistants (PS08).

The timeframe for a current operating room (scrub/circ) or Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse to work and complete training is approximately 12 - 14months, depending on prior experience and learning. You need to be ready to work full time in an ‘on the job’ training position in addition to completing the RNAA programme theoretic components.

The cost of the training is fully funded by the directorate. Clinical preceptor support is provided throughout with clinical teaching sessions facilitated by the Programme Leader

Once training is complete there is an opportunity for you to combine this role with another perioperative role e.g. 50:50 PACU: anaesthetic assistance or 50:50 or scrub/circ: anaesthetic assistance.

What we can offer you:

  • A unique and rewarding work environment that provides a high level of job satisfaction that is always interesting
  • An opportunity to grow both as a person and as a professional while working with a very friendly team
  • A structured training programme
  • A safe and supportive learning environment
  • Support with on-going preceptorship throughout your orientation

About you | He kōrero mōu

You will be a Registered Nurse who has New Zealand registration. You will already have at least 1 year of recent PACU, OR, ICU or other relevant experience and be ready to further develop your practice within the perioperative environment.
